Novum Instrumentum Geometricum

Many people don’t know that art and math have a long history together. These are illustrations from Leonhard Zubler’s Novum Instrumentum Geometricum (1607) which is in the public domain.

Zubler was a Swiss instrument maker whom is credited with the introduction of the plane table in modern surveying. In this book he demonstrates the use of his instruments in techniques of triangulation, particularly in war.
